Melancholy times Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia presents the exhibition Times of Melancholy. Creating and disappointment in Golden Age Spain, from November 12 to February 7, with hours: Monday from 11:00 to 17:00 h. From Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00 I h.Cerrado day January 1 and December 25

This is an exhibition the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia has produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the National Sculpture Museum Valladolid and La Caixa Social Work, has more than 60 artworks , medicine, philosophy, astronomy, music, botany and literature from different museums, institutions and private collections, which make up a polyphony around the melancholy sense of the culture of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The theory of melancholy, established on Greek soil, across Europe gained a new vigor since the sixteenth century and conquered the social imaginary, installed at the intersection of medicine, ideas and arts.

In our Golden, it adopted a personality. The crisis and disappointment coexist with a torrent of creative energy, which will serve as a symbolic melancholy amalgam of obsessions of every society.

This exhibition is an exercise that link recovery of our culture little known.

After its presentation in Valladolid (until October 12, 2015), times of melancholy continues its tour at the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia, and CaixaForum Palma de Mallorca, March 2 to June 11, 2016.
